Emergency physicians are uniquely positioned to impact the opioid epidemic because the emergency department is where these patients come for care. This course will provide the tools to turn lives around with best practice addiction treatments and satisfies eight hours of training required by federal law to prescribe buprenorphine, the most effective treatment for opioid use disorder.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP). The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American Academy of Emergency Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Method of physician participation in the learning process: Credit will only be awarded for completing all of the training. To be awarded a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and a Buprenorphine Training Completion Certificate you must complete all 8 hours of the course. Those completing the course will be able to complete the waiver application online.

Please confirm your eligibility prior to registering: To apply for a waiver you must have a valid medical license and an active DEA number. Residents may take the course and apply for their waiver when they receive their DEA license. Medical students are also welcome to take the course.
